Description
Dublin is the capital of Ireland and is home to a wealth of history and culture. The city is located on the east coast of the country and is bisected by the River Liffey. Dublin is a popular tourist destination and there are plenty of things to see and do in the city, here are a few of our favorites:
1. Trinity College and the Book of Kells
Trinity College is the oldest university in Ireland and is located in the heart of Dublin. The college is home to the world-famous Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript from the 9th century. Trinity College is also home to the Long Room, the largest single chamber in Ireland.
2. St. Patrick’s Cathedral
St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the largest church in Ireland and is the national cathedral of the country. The cathedral is located in Dublin and was founded in 1191. The cathedral is home to the tomb of Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver’s Travels.
3. The Guinness Storehouse
The Guinness Storehouse is located in the heart of the St. James’s Gate Brewery, the home of Guinness since 1759. The storehouse is a seven-story building that tells the story of Guinness and how it is made. The storehouse also has a Gravity Bar, where visitors can enjoy a pint of Guinness with a breathtaking view of Dublin.
4. Kilmainham Gaol
Kilmainham Gaol is a former prison located in Dublin. The prison was used to house Irish rebels during the 18th and 19th centuries. Kilmainham Gaol is now a museum and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Dublin.
5. The National Museum of Ireland
The National Museum of Ireland is located in Dublin and is dedicated to Irish history and culture. The museum has four branches, three of which are located in Dublin. The museum is home to a wide range of artifacts, including the Ardagh Chalice and the Tara Brooch.
6. Dublin Castle
Dublin Castle is a major Irish landmark and is located in the heart of the city. The castle was built in the 13th century on the site of a Viking settlement.
